Alarm didn’t go off?

MateWake relies on iOS to ring alarms, so if one doesn’t sound, check these first:

• Open MateWake and confirm the alarm is switched on.
• Make sure you allowed MateWake to schedule alarms when it asked (Settings → MateWake).
• Check your ringer volume, and that a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode isn’t silencing everything.
• Keep MateWake installed — deleting the app removes its scheduled alarms.
• Keep some charge overnight; a dead battery can’t ring.

And as the terms note: for anything you truly can’t miss, please keep a second alarm as backup.

Is it really free?

Yes — completely. No subscriptions, no ads, no in-app purchases.

Do I need an account or the internet?

Neither. Everything runs on your iPhone, fully offline, with no sign-up.

The puzzle is too hard.

Ask for a hint, reveal the mate and replay it, or switch to an easier puzzle — you’ll still finish on a winning move. You can also change the difficulty (Gentle, Normal, Focused, Hardcore) any time.

Which iPhones does it support?

MateWake uses Apple’s modern alarm technology, so it requires iOS 26 or later.

Where do the puzzles come from?

The Lichess Puzzle Database, released under CC0.
